Hi folks. Today I'm going to give you hopefully a short post, as long as I don't get too carried away, about the book "Skin Care A No-Nonsense Guide" from Caroline Hirons. Lady H released her book on June 23rd I think, I got mine on the 24th so I think it came out on the 23rd but maybe it was the 22nd. It's available through many different retailers. I will be linking Caroline's post about it here because I know I will leave a retailer out, but she has them all listed. I got mine through Amazon where I had pre-ordered it and I also have Amazon Prime so it was free shipping. Now in general I don't review books, so this might be all over the place. However, I do think it's something you'd benefit from if you want to know about skin. It's the only skin care book you need in my opinion. I'm not done with it completely because I keep making notes. I also don't want to tell you too much about it and ruin it for you. I think I'm going to order a second one to keep on display on my skincare shelf and then actually make notes in this one and keep it on hand, because the amount of times I've already consulted this book looking for something, is unreal. The Amazon price for the hardcover format is $26.99. It's 303 pages expertly breaking everything down, has 5 chapters, a full glossary and index, a list of doctors, facialists, brands, and other professionals in the industry that it goes above and beyond in regards to information. Like I said, I don't want to spoil it for you but it's the perfect guide/textbook/dictionary all rolled together of literally everything you need to know now, or might need to know at some point later on about skin. Plus it's funny. She thought of everything for this book. I will give you the chapter names because I think it would help give you an idea of what it holds inside. "A Good Skincare Routine" "Skin Types and Conditions" "When Life Happens" "Your Kit" "Here's the Thing" This comes in the formats of (on Amazon at least): Hardcover, Kindle, and Audiobook which I hear is fantastic. As I said the Hardcover version is $26.99, Kindle is $12.99, the Audiobook version I'm not sure about because mine says free trial. There's so many good quotes in this book and if you've followed Caroline for a while you'll recognize them. There's also incredible pictures. It fits Caroline perfectly with how it's been designed with the bright colors and her love for "camo". She speaks about everything so that a seasoned professional in the skincare world would benefit from it as much as a "beginner" would, who just needed some help with their skin or their routine. It's not specifically about how to treat, or products to use on your skin, it's also to help understand the skin as well. As an aside she also released some mugs too, with some of her most popular phrases on them, as well as bookmarks. You know how much I love mugs. I definitely want a few of them. I will try to "quickly" (yea right, settle in) tell you why I genuinely love Caroline.....and yes I would tell her that on the street if I ever saw her in public in a "Covid 19 free" world. I found out about Caroline several years ago through her blog. If you don't know, I started this blog 5 years ago and initially it was based on my genuine love for makeup and facial structure. Mainly how to amplify your facial structure using makeup and always having a "healthy" and hopefully "flawless" look. I had studied cosmetology and was ready to take the exam until I became sick for the first time. So I decided to write about it instead. What I kept noticing was I would get questions about what base products to use to mask a skincare problem a person had. So, I would implore people to take better care of their skin if they weren't, and to be properly cleansing their face morning and night. I enjoy learning about skin and I wanted to learn as much as I could. I found Caroline's blog and then immediately her Youtube (when she used to film "top 5's" with the red back ground ). I found her, Nadine Baggott, and Stephanie Nicole around the same time and I watched everything they had on their channels. Anything I had questions about whether over stuff I genuinely was never taught or hadn't heard of, like for instance "acid toners" or "double cleansing", I would look to her blog first. I would always find an answer or a direction to go in. She's in the UK and I'm in the US so sometimes there would be a brand or product that I couldn't find but there was always enough information to let me know what to look for to find a similar product. She also kinda pulled the curtain back on these mega brands about selling shit products for your skin ( LIKE FREAKING BAKING SODA ) because they were "trendy" at the moment, and they would sell them because a big "influencer" (hate that word) would post a video about it or a diy "hack" on Instagram. I never would've dared to question a brand before, let alone a big brand, over their products. I thought, naively, they had the customers best interests at heart (and some do try, don't get me wrong). So, I vividly remember walking through my drug store skincare aisle and seeing a new launch from a huge brand and realized it was just plain baking soda powder, and there was a whole range of baking soda products from them. I was genuinely shocked. It was then that I had so much more respect for Caroline and others like her, and realized how vital they are to this industry. It put a drive in me, even more then, to learn as much as I could about skin. What we thought 5 yrs ago when I started, has changed very much to what we know today thanks to constant progress of tech and new information. That's the beauty (no pun intended) of it in my opinion. What we don't know today, give us some time and we may know the answer in just a few days. From what I've read so far, this book is a perfect counterpart to her blog. It's absolutely packed with information. Caroline has always tried to answer questions I (and many others) have about products whether it's because I don't understand something or if it's a question about my own skin. When this book released and mine came in, I of course posted about it. She surprised me by asking me what I thought about it, which meant the world that she would even ask. I didn't lie when I told her I cried, out of both being so proud and happy for her, and also because I had just read the introduction, which I won't spoil for you. I knew this wouldn't be short.....who was I kidding. Now, for good fun I'm going to also link some music that would make her proud. Grab a cup of tea, yes tea, and listen or curl up with this book. Congrats Caroline, you deserve it. ABBA Dancing Queen
