A little while ago Cover FX released something new and revolutionary to the makeup world. Custom Cover Drops. Long story short, the idea behind this is that you can control your coverage without altering the finish of whatever product you use with it. So for example, if you really like the finish of NARS Luminous Weightless Foundation but you'd like it to be more coverage but just as thin and weightless you would add some of these drops to the equation and the coverage would increase. Or if you don't like foundation at all but need coverage you could add these drops to a primer or moisturizer etc etc and have the feeling of the product and the coverage from the drops as if you had used foundation.

It sounds too good to be true so I tested it out on my favorite moisturizer which is Sanitas Oil Free Moisturizer. I only added one drop because:

1 drop = sheer coverage
2 drops = medium coverage
3 drops = fuller coverage
4 drops = complete coverage

So to test it out, I added one drop to this so that I wasn't being wasteful, I just wanted to know if it works. And it did. Well huh. My mind is blown. Therefore, having this product I wouldn't have to apply moisturizer and then primer and foundation. I could skip primer and foundation and just use my moisturizer with the drops and be set. That's pretty cool, huh?

So my thoughts on this is for makeup artists that freelance it would be awesome to have. Less products you have to carry around you just need to decide what finish you want and go with that product and add your drops. For people who never can find the correct coverage and the correct finish it's either one or the other, this would be good for you too. Pick which finish you like the most and use these drops to add coverage to it. For people who are easily satisfied though I think you would find this too complicated. Not that it is complicated, its not. I just think that if you already have a foundation that you love then you probably aren't going to be persuaded to buy a product that's sole purpose is to customize coverage and nothing else. This is for those people who are never happy with mass produced products and that prefer their own custom makeup that is for their needs and no one else. The ones that find something wrong with every foundation because it's never the whole package. It's very cool and revolutionary, but it's kinda hard to wrap your head around. I say this because I'm someone who is easily satisfied when it comes to foundations. I don't usually pick them apart and I have more foundation that I like than I don't like. So I would be more apt to use a foundation that I know I love than try and figure out how much coverage I need to add to one that I don't love. You need to keep in mind that if you add this to a foundation the pigment in the drops may change the color of the foundation when mixed together if they aren't the same color. I think this would be cool to alter the color of a foundation if you needed to. If you need it darker or lighter you could add a drop and change the color somewhat.

This is $44 for .05 oz. There are 24 shades so you have a lot to choose from, which is always nice. It's on Sephora and Cover FX website.

For the look you are seeing, I added two drops to my moisturizer and went from there. I didn't use primer, nor did I go over it again with another layer. It worked really well. The color I have is a bit off but none the less it works fine. I used concealer as I normally would. In the pictures: top left is no foundation just corrector under the eyes, the second picture is moisturizer with two drop of custom cover, the bottom left is my concealer added in as normal and the bottom right is the rest of my makeup so contour, blush, and lips.

It does look really good and I'm very impressed with this whole concept. It's a great product and if you have foundation troubles I would get it for sure.
