Hey guys, I wanted to talk about some makeup today. I recently picked up some of the Cover FX monochromatic duos. I bought one blush duo and both bronzer duos. So lets get into it. *obviously not sponsored* I don't talk about Cover FX all that much but they're definitely a "staple products" brand. It's a brand that pro artists use often because their products are simple but effective and they're perfect for your kit and also backstage or on set. So while they don't always grab your attention with their products and packaging, AND the don't do a load of releases every other week like some brands, they kinda fly under the radar in my opinion as a brand. They're very underrated in my book.' Anyway, I seen these when I was looking up bronzers on ULTA. I was really interested because one side is a matte shade and the other side was "shimmer" but I feel like it's more metallic than glittery shimmer. There's only a few products I've ever had that are a duo where one side is matte and the other side is shimmer. There's only ONE that I've ever had where it was metallic looking like this, where it's so shiny it looks foiled in the pan. That was the NARS Dual Intensity blushes that I think have been discontinued, but in those blushes both pans were metallic/shimmer. So, I've never really had one like these exactly. When I see these duos I usually think of them and use them as one side that is the main blush or bronzer and the other side that's shimmery or metallic I used as a blush topper. Not a highlight for the cheekbones, let's make that clear, but as a topper for cheek products. These are beautiful. The pay off and pigment is gorgeous.
These are basically the same price and size as the Natasha Denona blush duos (the full sizes) which are huge. It's more product than Jouer Cosmetics Dual Blush, Kosas Blush and Highlight duos, and Wander Beauty Blush duos. Which all seen to have around anywhere from .28 oz - .39 oz. The Cover FX duos are .51 oz and priced at $38, and the previous ones with less product that I just listed range from $30-$36. There's 2 shades of bronzer and then there are 6 shades of blush. Let's address the obvious though there's not enough bronzer shades for sure. Not inclusive in my opinion. I can wear both shades of bronzers, using the darker one for depth under the cheekbones and I'm extremely pale. The blushes do go a little deeper (but could do with a couple more I think) but the bronzer shade range just wasn't there. As I've said, I got both bronzers and one blush. Unfortunately, I didn't really think it through and got "Warm Honey" in the blush which is described as a "Bronzed Rose" but truly it's just a shade or two difference from the blushes, so I wish I'd gotten something more pinky peach, or coral, or a true rose color. None the less, I'll use it because deep peachy shades are my daily go to blush shades. I've been using these often and they apply lovely, with no problem. I do prefer the lighter bronzer because it's more neutral in undertone and works with most blush shades. So that's nice. They build very nice, I actually am pretty light handed when I use them because the pigment is pretty intense for the matte side. They last really well as the day goes on. Considering how hot it is already, I appreciate that they don't really move or get patchy as the day goes on, nor do they disappear. This came with very generous samples. Usually you get packets of something as a sample but I got a really good size genuine travel primer and then a sample of their setting powder. I've tried the powder before and even though I don't use powders much, especially not loose ones, this one isn't bad. The shipping didn't take too long. I expect all shipping to be delayed everywhere since we're in a crisis right now but this shipped relatively quick.
