Vitamin C and Why It's Vital to Your Skin's Health

So recently I was sent a product from Le Subtile which is a Luxury Men's Skincare line. They'd sent a Vitamin C serum which I gave my husband to try. However, we really wanted to explore how important Vitamin C is to skin and why you need to have Vitamin C in your routine. I'm sure I've talked about this is the past but It's a very important step. So why not talk about it a little more in depth if we can.
Vitamin C is just as important in your routine as moisturizer or cleansing properly in my opinion. We all know that I have a lot of steps in my skincare especially at night. In the morning it's a much smaller routine but I still get Vitamin C in there. I'm going to be talking about Vitamin C in a serum form. There are other forms of course but I prefer it in a serum.  I use it typically right after my liquid toning.  I like to get it on early in the routine so that it can penetrate the skin properly.

So first and foremost it's an antioxidant. It's probably the most common antioxidant on the market and that's used the most. There are several forms of Vitamin C that I have went over before so I'm not going to give you that list again but I'll try to link the previous post that did discuss those. We're just going to focus on the reasons why you need it.  Antioxidants help fight against free radicals. To speed past the talk of atoms and electrons, free radicals can speed up up the aging process when you're exposed to them. Thus an antioxidant is protecting the skin/ fight back against/ or neutralize free radicals and environmental damage.

Some studies show that Vitamin C helps prevent UV damage or help to treat it. It promotes collagen production, helps repair skin, helps with inflammation and redness and one of the more noticeable differences is how it brightens the skin or gives the skin a more radiant look. Especially if you're skin has been looking extremely dull either due to health, travel, stress, etc. a good Vitamin C can bring it back to life. It could "potentially" protect the skin from "pre-cancerous changes from UV exposure" according to a Stanford study. This is specific to applying Vitamin C topically on the skin because while ingesting it can be good for you as well it doesn't hardly make it to the skin.

Vitamin C  plays very well with Ferulic Acid and Vitamin E which are also antioxidants. It can be quite unstable and it can turn very easily. I prefer either a dropper in a dark glass bottle, or an air tight pump situation that is also protected from the sun. So my skincare is never stored near a window or anything. It can break down due to it's unstable nature if it's exposed to too much light or air.

During the day I don't go above 15% Vitamin C because sometimes it can tingle or be sensitizing depending on the formula and also on what kind of Vitamin C you're using. If the percentage is higher than 15% I prefer to use it at night. Vitamin C especially if it's in a good formula can also tighten the skin. With regular use the skin is overall healthier, brighter, and more firm. It's a powerhouse ingredient and I hope now you realize how important it is to your routine.

For the Le Subtile Vitamin C I'll leave the claims below:

"We all know Vitamin C is good for your immune system. That's why it's no surprise that Vitamin C SKINCARE products have been trending this year.
