Here we have 5 different professional sprays from Kenra Professional. So I thought I would go about this review a bit different than normal. I was first introduced to Kenra products when I was in highschool over 10 years ago. It was their heat protectant spray I believe, that caught my eye. Can't think of the actual name of the product. Since then I've had numerous brands and products that were used by professionals but Kenra has always been a staple at any salon I go to. So I had the opportunity to try several of their products and I decided the best way to review them, put them to the test if you will, was to do casual everyday hair and then formal or intricate styles. That's what I did. I hope you enjoy it.
With this opportunity, I wanted to really see what these could do so to begin lets discuss my hair. My hair is pretty thick, it's colored every now and then, I don't feel like it's very shiny, not frizzy, very manageable when I'm just wearing it down, curls easy and keeps curl pretty well without the help of hair spray, been in too many messy buns, and long. In some ways products have their work cut out for them, in other ways it's very easy to take care of.
I use a sulfate free shampoo and a thicker conditioner. I RARELY blow dry my hair, or use products in it while it's wet. I will occasionally use a root pump or texturizing spray. I will occasionally put oil on it ( I happen to like hot oil treatments). I also do a DIY hair mask that I really liked onPinterest that helped with shine that I will try to find and link. I use heat tools on my hair about once or twice a week and I wash it about once or twice a week as well. The product I use most often I guess would be a light weight dry shampoo if I have to be somewhere. So I don't use dry shampoo constantly because I do not like the build up. Like I said my hair has been in too many buns so if it's not down it's in a bun or a pony tail. So I rarely do actual hairstyles like braids, updos, and so on. I have a background of cosmetology so while I don't feel like I'm talented with updo's especially, or hairstyles, I can usually watch a video and try to recreate it. I've always been able to braid, and I taught myself how to fishtail braid and do "quick fixes" to look like I tried when really, I didn't. So I'm not a lost cause when it comes to fixing hair. I had to dust off my skills though for this one, which I was glad because I like the challenge and the different content. All the styles I done were super easy and not time consuming. I use a detangling brush always, a teasing comb for some of them, Diana bobby pins because they're the best and elastics. It's set into place along the way and finished off with these Kenra products. So I'm going to give you the company claims of each product here: Kenra Perfect Medium Spray 13 Perfect Medium Spray 13 combines styling control with a touchable, brush-through hold. This fast-drying formula defines, sculpts and freezes styles in place, while providing humidity resistance with a high shine, flake-free finish. - Long-lasting, ultra-firm hold - Dries instantly - Humidity Resistant - Flake-free - High shine finish What I like about these products are that they all cater to different needs like: humidity resistance, a shine finish, light hold, firm hold, freeze hold (works great for tighter curls and pin curls), fast drying, fine mists, helps extend color, voluminous, etc. A lot of those things you would never think would be a benefit of what people presume is just a "hair spray". I've never encountered a spray that helps with color treated hair. I've never seen a matte finish hair spray either. It's things like that, that grab my attention. So my favorite of these is a hard choice but it's actually the Perfect Medium Spray 13. I like lighter hold hairsprays since my hair is usually loosely curled. The reason why I like this one more so than the HiDef that is for "undone" looks is because theres basically no feeling or residue that you feel on the skin. It doesn't get sticky when you're outside in the heat. It's not crunchy or stiff feeling. That's why I like it the best. I also love the Finishing Spray 26 for updos that are more loose and soft, because it holds the hair in place where it's supposed to be in the updo and it helps you sculpt the hair into doing what you want with your fingers as you're pinning and twisting and so on while helping it last all night or all day. Also it's humidity free so it's ideal for outside weddings or events, and it has the high shine finish to it. I like using the Freeze 30 along with the Finishing Spray 26 just for added shine and added hold to the entire updo overall and not just sections. For big hair I like the Volume Spray 25. It's great for updos as well due to the maximum hold that it has. I just happen to use it more when I've teased the hair for whatever style. Plus it's wind resistant and has a hold up to 120 hours, how cool is that? So it's like the mack daddy of them all in my eyes. Like I said though I don't require something that heavy but if you're doing a wedding or something I would definitely consider it, if you have very fussy hair. For when my hair is getting a bit oily I like using the HiDef 16, because of the light diffusing quality it has. With that it leaves a matte finish to the hair which I find helpful for concealing the hair when it's on it's 2nd or 3rd day. Also, on those days hair is easiest to work with in the sense of styling it. So if you want the "messy" or "undone" look this is perfect. It also gives the hair even more texture so that, especially in braids, you can grab the hair easier and then the texture keeps the hair from loosening or slipping out of the braid. So they all have a purpose. I love combining them when I'm doing braids and updos. There's a spray for every hair type and every occasion. Go check them out at: http://www.kenraprofessional.com/
