I'm going to be honest, I'm not a Charcoal fan that much. Not that I hate it, I just haven't seen as many benefits from it in order for me to really love Charcoal products. However, I love Exuviance. So when I got to use the Detox Mud Treatment (mask) I was happy to give it a whirl.
It totally helped that my friend Rheannon was trying it too and spoke so highly of it. Which her blog post I will link here. So I've been using these silicone face mask spatula/brush things with my mud mask and it's been the best. Easy to clean, no product absorption as if you were using a paddle brush with actual bristles. I picked mine up at Amazon. Just in case you wanted to know.

First I'm going to start buy giving you the company claims about the products per usual:

"This 23% Active Charcoal, Clay and NeoGlucosamine mud masque instantly clarifies and refines the appearance of pores, while absorbing excess oil and debris.

23% Active Charcoal, Clay + NeoGlucosamine Blend
Formulated to instantly clarify and refine pores
Helps remove debris, toxins, and excess oil
Ideal for congested, oily, or blemish-prone complexions
Appropriate for all skin types

This silky mud masque instantly decongests pores and detoxifies skin while absorbing excess oil and debris, so skin looks and feels thoroughly clean, smooth, detoxified, and refined.

Known for its ability to exfoliate and help minimize the appearance of pores, NeoGlucosamine, a non-acid amino-sugar exfoliator, initiates the clarifying treatment process. Then, Japanese Binchotan Charcoal acts like a magnet, sweeping up surface pore-clogging impurities and environmental toxins to take your skin beyond ordinary cleansing. French Clay, with its high mineral content, absorbs oil and leaves skin feeling revitalized. A botanical blend helps control oiliness and restore skin’s natural balance for a beautiful, smooth finish.

This detoxifying wash-off mask is formulated for all skin types, particularly skin that is occasionally congested, oily or blemish-prone. The charcoal and clay formula spreads easily onto skin and dries rapidly without staining skin. Simply splash with water to rinse off for a clear and smooth complexion.

This is a Paraben-free, oil-free, non-irritating formulation.

Recommended usage: Two or three times per week

Key Ingredients: Active Charcoal, Clay, NeoGlucosamine, Citric Acid

Size: 3.4 fl oz"

Ok so with that out of the way. Let's talk about the experience. This is going to take place as one of my favorite #selfcaresunday or "pampering"  mask products as well as a beneficial detox because it's an absolute pleasure to use. So far I have 3 "go to's" when I'm multi-masking. (yes it's a thing) This may take the place of one of those. When talking with my friend Rheannon who had tried it the same time I did we both were amazed at how smooth the skin felt after using it, which I totally didn't expect. Also, how much it actually did draw out of the pores. So I love it. Masks normally don't get me excited especially mud masks but this one proved itself. I should expect no less though coming from Exuviance.

So lets talks about Charcoal and NeoGlucosamine.

Charcoal is known for it's "drawing" abilities more so than anything else. However, it absorbs well too so in my opinion it would draw out impurities and then absorb them into the clay. Which as it happens clay has those similar properties as well. Basically making it perfect as a detox to the skin. It's quite helpful for those with combo or oily skin types because it leaves a matte finish to the skin almost, but definitely not a tight or dry feeling. I have normal to dry skin and had a great experience. Mainly the more high quality the mask is the more these specific ingredients are going to work. I have plenty of Charcoal masks but none of them compare to this one.

NeoGlucosamine, "a non-acid amino-sugar exfoliator, initiates the clarifying treatment process." It can also build Hyaluronic Acid which is actually natural and found in our skin but decreases the older we get. If it's helping to boost Collagen production, which it does, and  also being the "go to" ingredient that really hydrates the skin, that naturally makes the skin more plump but not just that. I think what it's doing is..... for what it's drawing out it leads me to think it's  putting moisture back in and that's why I think you don't have the "stripped" dry feeling like you normally do with some mud masks. Especially clay ones.

You put this on, it doesn't dry down, leave it on for 5-15 minutes and use 2-3 times a week. I totally left mine on longer. I wont lie. I was watching Stranger Things and plus where it doesn't dry down it never gets uncomfortable.

I really like this. It's $49 and you get 3.4 fl oz. It has earned a spot in my top favorite masks. Plus, don't forget holidays are coming up and you know they're going to be running some sells. I definitely would take advantage of that and not just get this but there are plenty of things from Exuviance that I love. Which maybe I will do a separate post on.
