So I got the highly anticipated Pat McGrath Skin Fetish 003. I got mine in Fine Gold because the other one was pink and I don't care for pink highlighters. So the set comes with like a thousand sequins or so and a brush which is super soft, a double ended highlight stick which is a colorless balm and then a gold cream highlighter on the other end. The pigment is a golden duo chrome. So you can wear this at least three ways probably more. you can use the pigment on it's own you can use the balm + pigment over it you can use the highlight + balm + pigment The balm I feel can also be applied alone for a "wet" look. This isn't just for cheeks but anywhere you want that highlight to "pop." Above we have from left to right: balm + pigment highlight + balm + pigment pigment alone So this is a great set no doubt about that. It's $72 and that's expensive. So I done a little test. I noticed that the balm was very similar in consistency to lip balm that is super slippery like in a squeeze tube. Nothing too waxy or with menthol. I'm not telling you to go out and do this, but I tried it on myself. You could easily use a face balm or cream highlighter. The pigment I noticed was very similar to Makeup Geek Voltage eyeshadow. So in the pic above is the PM balm + pigment in Fine Gold on the left and then lip balm + MUG Voltage on the right. The picture below is side by side comparison's of both the shadow and the skin fetish pigment. So let me get this out before everyone assumes I'm bashing this. The Pat McGrath set is bomb. It's got a nice brush, the double ended highlighter/balm combo is very cool and very good quality. The balm is an amazing base obviously and keeps your highlight intense through out the day. The pigment is of course beautiful. She does a great job with pigments as always. The brush I don't care for that much. I don't feel like it does any better than my Morphe highlight brush which I think is the M501 if I'm not mistaken, and I prefer the Morphe one to this one actually. The golden cream highlight makes this pigment darker so my women of color are gonna look gorgeous in this. That's the one up that this does have. I do think you could find a golden cream highlight for cheap as well. I know Wet n Wild just released some cream stick highlighters and the Benefit Watt's Up would probably work fine too if you already have that on hand.
Like I said, this set is awesome but it's $72 and knowing that Voltage which is $6 from Makeup Geek is very very similar... that makes it a really good cheaper alternative if you need one. I'm not saying one is better over the other, I'm just saying if you could find a cream base/balm to put under Voltage you would have the same effect and look. So there ya go. Take it or leave it. So L'oreal just dropped a killer new Glam Bronzer in 3 shades for the face and body. It's not matte it's got a bit of a golden sheen while being very cool toned. All three shades that it comes in seem to have a more cooler undertone and I really really love that. FINALLY a bronzer that's cool toned yet looks like a natural tan because of the golden overlay. There is Light, Medium, and Tan I believe. There were only 3 shades at my local drugstore and this isn't the first "Glam Bronze" to be put out there, looks to be tons in this line. I will say that the price tag is disappointing for this. I have looked, plenty, all over the internet to find a price difference, but I can't find one that is like mine (Like I said there are many different releases of this) in the designs that were at my store. So the price was $15 or something around there. The good thing was they did have $3 off coupons. I'm not saying this isn't a good product because it absolutely 100% is and it's large too. However, the beauty of drugstore products is the price point. Drugstore makeup is affordable and, for the most part, quality beauty. This is getting a bit out of that realm just like the foundation price points that are going up. Like I said before, the quality is there but I don't like the price. This is about the size of the Wet and Wild big bronzers that are also really nice for the most part and cost a lot less. So here it is. It's big and beautiful, it reminds me of a rope pattern in a rug or like a weave in a quilt. It's really big it's about twice the size of my regular bronzers. I got the lightest shade, 01 Light. Which I would normally grab that darkest shade because I like darker bronzers because they tend to be so warm and almost orange, so darker is better for me. Above you can see how cool toned it actually looks, below is a swatch of it and you can seen the golden feel that it has as well when it's on the skin. It applies really well. It feels nice, It's not as soft as I thought it would be but the pigment is there. Here I am wearing it, I apologize for the closet being open in the back. Just keeping it real. It looks really nice, it lightly contours the face. I've not been contouring since I got this. Its a really nice glow and believable looking sun kissed look. Rather than you have a bunch of bronzer on.
So there you have it. One beautiful bronzer with very few cons. Check it out if you want to. There are multiple versions of Glam Bronze, like I said, but this one has the intertwining rope or maybe a wave like design, I'm not exactly sure what they were going for design wise. Look for some coupons for L'oreal makeup and try to get you some dollars off. I recently got some new stuff from Colourpop. As you know I'm a huge fan of Colourpop. I just picked up some new stuff from newer collections. Not just one specific collection. I got 3 of the Satin Liquid Lipsticks. 2 are the new ones from the spring collection and 1 from the first line. 1 Sculpting Stix from the Jaime King collab Brow Color and Dope Taupe. I also got another Dare eye shadow since mine bit the dust. (not pictured) The most exciting thing I think is the lip sticks. Especially the shade Naked Ladies. It's like that perfect bright Coral. It looks red when swatched with other Reds but it's definitely gonna be my summer shade cause it's that intense Coral-y Red. Second is Botanical which always seems so much lighter in person. It's like a good brighter sherbet color. It's very similar in my opinion to Retro Coral from Anastasia Beverly Hills. It doesn't look so much like it in the swatches but it really is similar in person. Bad Habit is a color I definitely didn't have. It's a blue based bright pink. It's a bit more of a duo chrome since there seems to be a metallic color shift. So for the other swatches with the new colors to see what are similar. Top Right picture left to right: Bad Habit CP, Srooge CP, Enchanted LA Splash Bottom Left pic left to right Naked Ladies CP, Succulent CP, Cozy CP Bottom Right pic top to bottom Botanical CP, Pacific CP, Retro Coral ABH, Cocos Island Ofra Cosmetics Next is the Sculpting stix and Brow Color. The sculpting stick is really similar to Tarte's cream contour stick. Bottom line if you like cream contour I think you should try it. It blends well. I only use it under foundation so I can speak for what it does on top of foundation. However, it's not expensive so I really do think it's a deal. In the picture above Top to Bottom: New Renaissance CP, Tarte Sculptor in Park Avenue Princess #3, Tarte Sculptor in Park Avenue Princess. Lastly is the Brow Color. This is basically a pomade. I got Dope Taupe and I really really like it. If you like sculpting your brows I would pick one of these up in a heart beat. It goes on really well and stays on well. They are also offering brow pencils too and they look similar to the Brow Wiz from ABH but I'm not sure. The pic below: Top left: Bad Habit Top Right: Naked Ladies Bottom Left: Botanical So that's it. As always I love everything I got. Colourpop very rarely lets me down. They're inexpensive and they're pretty fast with their shipping. So check them out if you've not. I'll leave their link here. Also sign up for emails and get a $5 off coupon.
Urban Decay has blessed us with a 2016 Summer line and it is spectacular. I only got two pieces from it because a lot of it included concealer shade expansions and Naked Skin foundations. Also new 24/7 eye liner shades as well as a new Hybrid Complexion Perfector. Which I feel is along the lines of a BB Cream. It's called the Naked Skin One & Done, if you're wondering. So the two things that caught my eye were: the bronzers and highlighters. The packaging was soooo cute and I'm not sure if I've ever really had a bronzer from Urban Decay and definitely never had a highlighter. So that was what I wanted to get. The Beached Bronzer comes in two shades one is Sunkissed (light skin tones) and the other is Bronzed (Medium skin tones). I got Bronzed. I prefer darker bronzers in general. The Afterglow Highlighter comes in 3 shades Sin (champagne gold standard color) Aura (pale pink) and Fireball (peach). The highlighters look a little "duo chromed" to me which you know I love. I got Sin because I felt like that was pretty safe. Let me say that the highlighter is the one thing I recommend you getting this summer. I RECOMMEND THIS HIGHLIGHTER. I have never in my life seen a highlighter so potent. I'm talking more highlighted than Becca, The Balm, Anastasia, etc. I have literally never seen anything this pigmented as far as a highlighter in my life. Now the formula when you swatch it with your finger feels harder. It doesn't feel dry necessarily but it's not so creamy that it clumps up if you press too hard like Becca can and others that are super soft and buttery. If that makes sense. So you swatch it and you're like "oh this is nice" but then you put it on and your like "HOLY CRAP I COULD DIRECT TRAFFIC WITH THIS LIGHT ON MY FACE" or at the very least be mildly convinced a fairy threw up on the side of your face. It takes "strobing" to a new level. I can't honestly even express how insane this is. The bronzer is like silk. It's so soft and smooth. It's not too buttery either it's like a soft thin veil of bronzer when you swatch it. I've never felt a formula like this at all. Never. It is very very warm. Remember I have the darker shade though. This is ideal for summer nights and what have you. Actually both of these are. The bronzer though is exactly what it is "a bronzer". I don't feel like you could contour with it. I think it's best used to warm up your face and make you look healthy and sunkissed. It applied so nice and blends like a dream and it's also super pigmented as well. These are the swatches of Sin (left) and Bronzed (right) The two pictures are of me wearing Sin on the cheekbones and Bronzed around the face. I had to buff it down a little because it was much warmer than this originally. So bear that in mind. Go easy at first, with both of them actually. These launched on Urban Decay earlier this week. I received mine the day after. They have not been released in Sephora or Ulta yet and I don't know when they will be I'm think around the 1st of April as a ballpark estimate.
Beached Bronzer: $28 for 9.0 g Afterglow Highlighter: $26 for 6.8 g Seeing as how the color correcting trend isn't going anywhere anytime soon, I thought I'd make a more in depth post about how to color correct or neutralize certain things. It won't be as much about new products that are out just what type of product you might need formula wise. I'm gonna include some video links of short demo's on how I do things. When I think of color correcting I think old school. When we didn't try to color correct everything on our face. Color correcting will not solve every single flaw, just like contouring and highlighting won't change face structure and shape. These things are done as something to HELP areas of concern. So it's ok to want to change things, or not like something but at some point you have to be ok with "hey this is just how it is and I can do things to make me feel better about it, make it look better, or whatever". Trust me when I say, someone else would love to have your issues, or your bad days, and even if you don't feel beautiful...you are. So many people see the beauty in you that you don't see in yourself. If someone is teasing you or being mean, they want to make you feel bad and make you unhappy because misery loves company. With all that aside lets get into this business. The picture about is photo shopped obviously to show some different skin scenarios. This is for those of you with really red skin, or rosecea. I'm not talking a little pink, I'm talking really red skin. So back to the color wheel: Green cancels out or neutralizes Red. I personally don't have redness. I have a little pink which we'll discuss later. Green correctors that I feel are good things to use to neutralize this issue are: primers, Smashbox has a green primer that is really well loved in "Adjust" it's $39 but it's stood the test of time and is considered the #1 primer among artists for this. Make Up For Ever has a primer Skin Equalizer Redness Correcting Primer it's $37. I really enjoy their primers. Another thing that I think is very cool if you don't like primer is, Algenist Concentrated Color Correcting Drops in Green. This is $38. I love these because it's not another layer that you have to do. It's pure pigment and can be added to your moisturizer or foundation even to neutralize the skin. I would start with one drop and go from there to see how much you needed. NYX just released some new color correcting primers for $13.99. I don't know how well they work but in general I like NYX products. L'Oreal also has one on Ulta for 12.99. When it comes to large areas that need to be corrected I like to either use primers or drops. Thicker creams get so heavy and can make you look cakey or intensify pores and I prefer not to use them if I need a large area covered. So I'd go with a full coverage possibly yellow toned foundation and a green base instead of a really thick paste like green cream. If you needed something a little thicker though Sephora Bright Future Serum Color Correctors and also Urban Decay Naked Weightless Color Corrector are both light weight with a little more coverage. So in this picture we're correcting pink. Hormonal pink around the nose, pink eye lids and just minor things. For pink I like to use Yellow. For the eyelids especially I really like Benefit Lemon Aid eyelid corrector and primer. I also like the NYX HD Concealer in yellow and also the NYX High Coverage concealer that comes in a pot in yellow. The High Coverage is thicker and heavier but that's alright for spot treating a pimple that's a bit pink or hormonal pink or redness around the nose. I also really like Urban Decay Naked Skin Corrector in Yellow or the Weightless Concealer in Light Warm. MAC Light Boost has always been a good choice as well. Yellow correctors aren't hard to find usually. Even if you don't get a full blown corrector, a yellow toned concealer will do the trick. You can let it sit on the skin for a while so that it will build more coverage too, kinda like cooking. I don't usually feel a yellow primer is necessary for pink areas that don't cover the entire face. That's when you'd go with more green. Next up is "brightening" the skin, or correcting skin that is sick looking or overly yellow. The way to do that is with pink or lavender. In the picture above I changed the saturation to make my skin look very dull with minimal color in it. Primer is another route I would go or even powder. Besame powder in Vanilla Rose is a super light pink powder that is very brightening. They also have Lavender as well and I have both of those and they work really well. NYX released a color correcting powder in Lavender but not Pink. This is easy to correct over foundation though as well as under it, so it's really up to you how you want to do it but I do prefer doing it over top of foundation. Some other good options that aren't powder are MAC Radient Rose, Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correctors in Pink or Lavender, a pink based concealer, Maybelline Instant Age Rewind in Brightener, so on so forth. Olive skin tones may want to go with Lavender instead of pink while lighter tones may want to go with pink. Sometimes it's as easy as getting a more pink toned foundation. Of course blush and other things are gonna help put color in the skin as well. Lastly, is my biggest issue, which is dark circles. Dark circles are hereditary, also from lack of sleep and poor health as we know. I've tried dozens of products over the years. I'm very picky but I have found some really great ones. Peach is my preference for my blue and purple circles, but Pink can also be used if they aren't super dark circles. My favorite pink corrector for circles is Becca Under Eye Brightener. It's a light pink and reflects light as well so it bounces of the reflection of the corrector since it's so luminous and shiny. I also like Benefit Eye Bright I don't like the actual crayon cause I don't like to drag things on my lower eye area since it's so delicate under there and the crayon is kinda dry. I do however like it when they put it in compacts or duos. That to me is easier.
For peach correctors I like Benefit Erase Paste in shade 2 they have 3 shades. It's very very creamy which is always a plus. It goes fast though. I also really like It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector which is a little less creamy but still very nice and has that shine. I love NYX Dark Circle Corrector just as much as any other it does a great job, I always have it on stand by. Recently I've been using Sephora Bright Future Corrector in Peach to cancel them when I need a bit more than pink but not a hardcore corrector. MUFE also has a line of of correctors in the Ultra HD concealer (they start with R while the others start with Y) that are more for dark circles. If you have darker skin or have actual dark spots darker peaches and oranges like papaya and mango shades might be more to your liking such as Becca Backlight Targeted Colour Corrector in Papaya. If you need a larger area covered because of pigment issues, Smash Box has a peach/orange primer base as well as NYX and MUFE has a peach primer and a caramel primer for dark skin tones. Algenist has an Apricot shade in their color drops. I've also seen people use Red for dark circles but I don't just because it runs into the already pink areas I may have and amplifies them. I have seen some though that used it and it worked wonderfully from light skin- darker complexions. There are also some products that are "balms" I however just don't really like that idea. I think other things would work better and be cheaper than the "balms" I'm seeing. Here's some videos on color correcting products I've used: Benefit Life's Little Correctors Set: I used the Eye Bright, Erase Paste, and Lemon Aid for my eyelids. Sephora Bright Future Corrector in Peach for dark circles Urban Decay Weightless Concealer in Light Warm for hormonal pink around the nose and then Benefit Shy Beam Liquid Matte highlight that is a baby pink to brighten up the face in certain areas. As always you can buy these things at Sephora and Ulta or even the drugstore for some. I also really like ordering from Frends Beauty. You can sign up and be a member for free and get 10% off your purchases at all times. As always use Ebates and get you some cash back if you can. Hope this helped you out in some way. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask me or email me I'd be happy to help. Color correcting is the new trend and while I do think there is a need for color correcting, I don't want everyone to get crazy with it like contouring is. Believe me you don't need much and you usually only need 2 maybe 3 shades at most. So I don't get down with the sets that have every shade under the sun unless you're a freelance artist. However, I really like this set because while it does have correcting qualities they serve different functions. This comes with 2 "Boi-ing" concealer shades in 01 and 02. Two Lemon Aid yellow eye shadow primers that correct redness. An Erase Paste in 02 Medium for dark circles and Eye Bright to brighten up dark areas.
I used the Erase Paste for years, I've always really like Lemon Aid and Eye Bright as well. This is a cool set for a freelance kit it's very compact when the little containers come out. I really enjoy this. I done a little demo of this showing how I'd use the Erase Paste, Eye Bright, and Lemon Aid. Now on a normal day I would probably just use Erase Paste and maybe the Lemon Aid primer if my eyelids were really red. Today my whole face was red though so I used it as well. I'll link that demo here. This is pretty cut and dried you get two actual concealers for blemishes, two eyelid primers that are the same, and a dark circle corrector in peach and brightener in pink. This goes for $20 at Sephora which is a great deal, it's also limited edition as well. I'll go through the Erase Paste fastest because it's super creamy thus easier to get more product out. The rest is more dry creams so you're not accidentally getting out more than you need. I find that the darker shade of Boi-Ing concealer is a bit too pink for my taste. That's not a deal breaker though especially for the price. Remember if you're going to to get this then use Ebates and get you some cash back when you shop. Link for Ebates is in the side bar. Tarte just went ham and released a TON of new products for their new line: Rainforest of the Sea. This particular palette above is the Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette. It's a "strobing and perfecting" with "three universal shades". This is available online at Sephora and will be in stores on March 14th. It's $42 and has two shimmery/strobing highlights and then a smaller "perfecting powder" that is a setting powder. It contains about .37 ounces of product. From left to right or top to bottom, however you want to look at it is: Sunrise, Filtered Light, and Moonlight.
Sunrise is a golden highlight. Filtered Light is a powdery light yellow setting powder to "brighten up dark under eyes". Moonlight is darker, it seems really similar to Becca Opal in my opinion a bit warmer though. Sunrise and Moonlight are very very soft and buttery almost. They are very very nice and apply beautifully. Filtered Light is really powdery which I didn't like at first. However, using it to set my concealer under the eyes worked really well. It feels silky and has a bit of slip to it. It doesn't swatch really well so it seemed disappointing at first but using it with a brush made a difference. I feel like these are like Becca Cosmetics and Hourglass Ambient Powder rolled into one. Filtered Light reminds me of Hourglass Diffused Light Ambient Powder but drier. The color is very similar but if you swatch Filtered Light with your finger its very dry and a little chalky feeling. The bigger powders that are your shimmer highlights remind me of the Becca Pressed Powder formula which as well all know if amazing. I think Becca has a bit more pigmentation possibly, or maybe not it's hard to tell because these are really good. It's just hard to think that something could come up against Becca highlighters. I think this might though. Overall, I like this palette a lot. I think for the price, you're getting good quality. The packaging is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. These are pretty standard colors though. So if you have something similar I'm not sure it'd be worth the money to get this as well. If you don't have any of these colors or are just starting to get into highlighting or makeup then I would definitely say get this because its a reasonable price and like I said just really good quality. So everywhere I look and every email I get is new color correcting products. EVERYWHERE. So I thought "lets talk about it". Firstly, color correcting is great but not every one needs it and just because it's everywhere you look, doesn't mean you need to start being as in to color correcting like we were with contouring and highlighting. Cause lets face it, it got pretty crazy with the contouring tricks and they're still going. So color correcting can be a little overwhelming and confusing so we're gonna go over the basics. I've included all the color correcting products that caught my eye, might be good, or are just trendy. The basics of color correcting go back to the color wheel. I did a whole post on it. Opposite colors neutralize each other. So here are some easier ways to look at it. Green cancels out redness (helps with rosacea, and blemishes) Yellow cancels out redness and purples and helps with dull skin Peach cancels out blue/purple and helps with dark spots (typical for helping dark circles under the eyes) Lavender balances out yellow skin and brightens the skin Blue cancels out sallow skin Pink brightens dark areas Orange for deep blue/purples, deep grey and dark spots So that's the way I look at it. The main ones you see in correctors are Yellow, Green, Pink and Peach. I rarely see blue. Lavender is becoming more popular as well as Orange and Papaya shades. There's something for everyone now and that's great but it's confusing too. From top left of the picture above is: Marc Jacobs Beauty Cover(t) Stick Color Corrector $42 for .56 oz. This comes in 3 shades each of them being infused with two colors. It looks really cool and you get a lot of product but I just don't see this as something anyone would "need". There are cheaper options that do the job just fine. Although I'm sure this is a great product it is not something I am interested in I find it more trendy. It looks cool though and I won't disagree with that. This is VIB only right now. Next is Besame Brightening Powders $22 for .21 oz. These are not new necessarily but they're included some new shades. The one above is a pink powder. I have the Lavender powder and love it. I will get the pink powder as well because they are great for setting the under eye area. That's really the only place I would use these powders, is under the eye. I think these are a fair price and usually you do need to set your under eye area if you've used concealer and what not. Smashbox Color Correcting Stick $23 for .12 oz. This has 4 shades. It's very similar to the contour sticks which you'll find several products that are the same packaging as their contour counter parts. This comes in 4 shades which are peach, orange, lavender, and green. So no pink and no yellow. This is a buildable product, but "creamy". I find stick/crayon products tend to be a little dry and look cakey but Smashbox usually does a great job. I'm not sure how I'd feel about dragging this around the eye areas. That's not a good thing to do for the delicate eye area, but if these were more pigmented instead of "buildable" I wouldn't be near as worried. These are also VIB only right now. Stila Correct and Perfect Palette $45 for .46 oz. This includes two powders and 5 cream correctors. I think this palette is really cool and I would be tempted to get it. Yellow and Lavender are the powders. A larger peach cream corrector for dark circles and four smaller Green, Pink, Orange, and Yellow creams. The packaging is beautiful. It has both powder and cream which is handy. This has every corrector though and there will be at least 1/3 of the palette that you won't use maybe even half. If you're a freelance artist, I think it would be great. If you want it just for yourself I might would pass. This is also VIB exclusive. Beauty Blender correct.four micro mini set for $30. If you like the mini beauty blenders it might would be nice to have as extras but I wouldn't get sponges in color correcting colors because that seems like a lot of time and space. If it simplifies things for you though as a freelance artist then I think it would be smart or like I said a great way to have back ups. This is limited edition. The top left is: Algenist REVEAL Concentrated Color Correcting Drops $38 for .5 oz. These come in four colors I think. This seems really awesome. Algenist is mainly skincare and so this product is also marketed toward skincare and makeup. It can be used alone or added to makeup. It can soothe, balance skin's texture, and brighten. It's featuring Microalgae, microalgea oil, and alguronic acid to not just neutralize and balance but also treat and cover the skin. I think this is really cool. If I had a lot of redness I would get the green one for sure. Pigment drops are really popular right now so it's not surprising it would lead into color correcting and that's fine with me because added to foundation or it would be far less products to layer. This is also VIB exclusive right now. Sephora+Pantone Universe Correct and Conceal palette. $49 it has 15 shades in the palette there are two palettes available. I think this is a great palette for artists to have in their kits. It has correctors and concealers. I don't know how great they are as far as pigmentation and what not, it has no stars on Sephora but of the reviews it has it's apparently really nice. This is also VIB exclusive right now. Becca Backlight Targeted Correctors $30 for .16 oz 4 shades of Peach, Green, Lavender, and Papaya. I love the pink brightener for dark circles and I have no doubts this would be wonderful. These have been out for a few months and have really good reviews. I would definitely consider this if you wanted something color correcting. Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Wipeout Color Correcting Palette: this is $45 it has 6 shades in it. It's in the same set up as the contour palette. This releases on February 29th online and March 14th in stores. Cover FX Correct Click $18 for .19oz it has 6 shades. Peach, Lavender, Yellow, Green, Orange, and Brick. I think these are neat they are a good price and you have the option to customize them with the Click Stick, or get two in a set for $44. I would be interested in giving these a go. Plus they have a nice shade range that include dark orange and reddish orange. Which you won't see hardly anywhere else. Now we're getting to last of the new/new-ish products.
Kat Von D Lock It Color Correcting Eyeshadow Primer $25. This is neat it's skin tone shades that mask any veins on the lid as a concealer would all while being a good base for your eyeshadow. It's stick form or crayon, .049 oz. I would look into this especially if you like using a base that masks your natural lid for veins or darkness like MAC paint pots or colors concealers. Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid $28. It comes in 5 shades and if it's anything like the Naked concealer (which I think it will be) it's gonna be amazing. I would seriously consider this because it's liquid and light weight and if I was just guessing has great pigmentation. This is for VIB's right now and it's also Sephora exclusive right now, it's not on the Urban Decay website yet. Sephora Collection Bright Future Color Correctors $14 for .14oz it comes in 7 shades. I have it in peach and I really love it. I think these are great for dark circles I don't know how good they would be for redness on the face or blemishes but for dark circles I do recommend it the peach tones. YSL Neautralizers $38 for .08oz. It has three shades. This is the same packaging as the Touche Eclat Radient Touch that people use as brighteners, highlighters, and concealers. I do really like the Radient Touch but I don't even use that very much because there are equally good or better products out there and for the price I just feel like it's a bit of a unnecessary splurge. Which is how I feel about this and it doesn't have a lot of product or shades. So there you have it. That of course is not the only ones available. Color correcting is not a new thing by any means. LA Girl has good ones and has had them for about a year. So does NYX. If it were me, the ones I would consider getting would be the Urban Decay, Becca, or Sephora Bright Future. My color corrector shades that I use are usually only yellow and peachy tones though. So everyone is different. Keep in mind if you're someone with texture the more products you layer the more noticeable it's going to be so maybe consider the Algenist drops if you need something. Take into consideration if your dry or oily as well, as really creamy products may not be ideal for oily gals just as powders may not be ideal for very dry gals. A lot of these are VIB exclusive right now meaning you need to be a VIB member to get them. A VIB member is the 2nd level in their rewards program meaning you spend $350 in a calendar year. They will be available to everyone shortly I'm sure and there are plenty to choose from that are oldies but goodies as well that have stood the test of time. These you will find at Sephora. Don't forget to use Ebates and get 4-8 percent cash back on purchases. Benefit has released a new "Porefessional", don't worry the original is still available as the two are very different and made to work with one another. This one being a mattifying gel and the original being a "primer". You are to apply the Matte Rescue before primer. This is water based which I really like. I don't care for the original Porefessional (primer) it just didn't help pro long my foundation and slipped right off my face. This does what it says it will do though. I really do like it. It's great for you oily gals. I think it's a good concept as well to make the skin matte with one product and then use a smoothing/pore filling primer on top for the best application possible for your foundation. I apply it with a brush and not my fingers though because it tends to ball up if I rub it too much. So test it out to see how to best apply it for yourself. The first time was a disaster the other times I got the hang of it. I use it with a smoothing primer or blurring primer not necessarily the Porefessional but things with similar texture. This is $28 for 1.60 oz. at Sephora. The OG Porefessional is .75 oz for $31. You can also buy this at Ulta, they were offering free gifts with a purchase of a Benefit product. I don't know if that offer still stands though, it should tell you if you get a free gift with purchase though.
The swatches above is Dew the Hoola on the left and Shy Beam Dandelion on the right. So Shy Beam Dandelion is on the top of the cheek bones, center of the nose and forehead. Warm Soul from MAC is the blush, and Dew the Hoola is on the sides of the forehead and areas where I contour or bronze typically like under the blush application and sides of the nose.
If you're interested in getting these from Sephora or Ulta be sure to use Ebates and get you some cash back. Again Makeup Geek has blessed us with another launch of products, contour powders. There are 8 shades 4 warm toned shades and 4 cool toned shades for porcelain to deep skin tones. The two I have are Cool Porcelain and Cool Fair. I tend to like a more grey based contour. I will say though that just from pictures and swatches I feel like both sides of cool and warm are wearable and a bit neutral. What I mean is I don't think the warms tones are overly orange, red, or bronze and the cool tones aren't like the shadow of death on your cheek bone. So I really love how they've done their colors and formula for these. Marlena done a video of swatches and explaining which skin tones need which shade and I will link that for you here. The actual shades names are Break up (Bottom) and Infidelity (Top). They swatch darker than what it looks in the pan so don't underestimate these. These swatch really nice and are very pigmented as well. The formula reminds me of Kat Von D contour palette. It's heavily pigmented and smooth like that. I've been using Break Up the most because I'm so pale right now but if I want a little extra or something more dramatic I can always do Infidelity to make the contour more prominent and in the summer it will probably be my go to shade. The picture above is just for size reference and nothing else. I just wanted to show how big these are and for just $10 that's really saying a lot. The picture below is Break Up applied with a pointed contour brush from Morhpe and then buffed out to where it wouldn't be so harsh. These are super pigmented and the brush I used was dense so I picked up more than I intended. It's also on the sides of my forehead as well, just very lightly. These are .15 oz for $10 and most pan contours are anywhere from $12-$17 roughly. You can also buy all 8 for $65 as a bundle on the Makeup Geek website. So once again I'm pleased as punch with what Marlena has done and the products she's worked on. Such affordable products with amazing quality is very hard to find and especially to have a lot of options not just one or two things. I can't wait to see what they release later on. I hear highlighters are on the way for summer and a couple big collaborations. Along with working on foundations and concealers, they're really killing it and I have no doubt that they work hard everyday and it shows with the consistent product launches that are usually always good if not great. **I'm not paid to say this either, I'm just a genuine fan of Makeup Geek. The picture below is using "Infidelity" with a angled brush. I find that I like a fluffier angled brush to apply these contours more than a super dense contour brush that is flat, domed, pointed so on. Only because these are SO pigmented.
