Guys.......this palette......is by far the best palette so far for 2016. I'll be impressed if any other eyeshadow palette can top it. It's a nice velvet/suede feel packaging. Same size as most ABH palettes. It's simplicity of packaging is absolutely perfect. It's like when you finally got your hands on the first NAKED palette from Urban Decay, that feeling you had. Yea this is like that. I knew from the colors alone that I wanted this. When I got it though it was soooooo much more than what I expected and I have high expectations from ABH. This has 14 shades all together and a double ended brush. There are 11 matte shades and 3 shades that are shimmer. What immediately drew me to this palette was the shades Love Letter, Venetian Red, Red Ochre, and Realgar. Some awesome cranberry and orange-y shades. When I got the palette though I fell in love with Raw Sienna and Golden Ochre and Burnt Orange as well. 3 of the shades are available as single shades as of right now, which are: Burnt Orange, Buon Fresco, and Warm Taupe. Which are really neutral shades and not the most stand out shades. So all these really awesome reds, oranges, berry, and amber shades are not available to buy individually. From top to bottom we have: Tempera Raw Sienna Golden Ochre Burnt Orange Vermeer Primavera Buon Fresco Red Ochre Antique Bronze Venetian Red Love Letter Warm Taupe Cyprus Umber Realgar The formula is impreccable like always. These are so pigmented that when I applied Golden Ochre (matte) it covered Love Letter (also matte). So a light skin toned shade COVERED a dark berry shade. They are insane. They're so soft, pigmented (obviously), blendable, and keep their color as the day goes on. I can not begin to explain how much I love this palette. It's $42 which is fair especially for the packaging and quality of product. It's available now on the ABH website, but it will hit Sephora stores on June 15th. I'm not sure about Ulta. I would assume it would be the same. This was the first look I done with it. A completely messy matte eye and shimmery inner corner. I really smoked out the lower lash line super heavy too.
Obviously, my thoughts are: GET THIS. If you like warm smokey eyes and cranberry shades then you need this in your life. Trust me on that.

Summer has arrived. It's in full swing here in Tennessee. So naturally I'm sporting some colorful, down right neon looks to welcome it. Starting with the one above. Strawberry Lemonade (all Makeup Geek shadows): Crease: Tuscan Sun first and the Poppy Lid: white base, outer half is Fashion Addict taking it into the crease as well. Touching up the crease again with Poppy. Then Hologram Pigment on a flat stiff damp brush on the inner 2/3rds of the eye. Lower Lashline: With a pencil brush the outer half is Poppy first and then Fashion Addict. Then with an angled brush I'm using Fashion Addict to trace the bottom of my tear duct. Not connecting it with the lid. Then applying Hologram with the same angled brush only wet. Angled brush needs to be thin so that the pink doesn't go too far down and make you look sick. Lips: Bare With Me from Dose of Colors I'll leave a video for it here. This one I'm calling "Cantaloupe" All MUG shadows again Crease: Tuscan Sun and Chickadee Lid: Voltage over In The Spotlight. Americano on the outer V Then Light Year Sparkler applied with a glitter glue base. Liner: Ardency Inn Punker liquid liner Lower Lashline: Tuscan Sun and Voltage Link for the video is here. This one I like to call "Fruit Salad" for it's array of colors. It has more colors to it than the others. All Makeup Geek of course except the glitter. Crease: Tuscan Sun, Fashion Addict, Poppy Lid: Fortune Teller and Mai Tai. 24k Roseate glitter from Star Crushed Minerals. Lower Lashline: Poppy and Black Light on the inner half for the purple cast Lashes: Vamptress lashes from Violet Voss Video for this one is here. This look is more bold and intense. The lip option can easily change though. There is no video for this one. All the shadows are Makeup Geek as well. I call it "Blue Hawaiian Cocktail"
Crease: Dragon Fly and Sharkbait Lid: Dragon Fly on the inner corner, Chit Chat in the center, and Houdini on the outer lid Lower Lashline: Chit Chat on the inner part, Sharkbait on the outer part Lashes: Vamptress lashes from Violet Voss Lips: Climax Matte X lippie stix from Colour Pop. Here I have some really awesome, really beautiful pressed glitters. If you're on Instagram or are in any way affiliated with the makeup community you've probably seen the talk of pressed glitters. There are some really well known ones but the ones I'm going to talk about are less expensive and really great. It seems like pressed glitters are over $10 usually, but I've found some that are well below that. I tried actually to get some pressed glitters from a pretty well known company. $50 and a few emails later.... no package. Luckily, I have pay after delivery so no harm no foul, but it did leave a bad taste in my mouth. Thus, I went to some smaller companies that always seem to have better customer service. The first set that I'm gonna talk to you about are from Fairy Vibez on Etsy. These pressed glitters were only $4. You read that correctly. Right now, you can choose a palette of 6 or 12 for 30% off which makes it even cheaper. Now pressed glitters are something that still need a base in my opinion. A base of glitter glue. These are not like waxy glitters that wet n wild used to serve up these are legit pressed glitter in a pan, that is best applied over a glitter glue with your finger. It's gonna give you a very opaque glitter finish. Not sparse glitter here and there. Solid glitter. So above is some swatches from Fairy Vibez: Teaven Dragon Scale Terra Kota Rosa Mulberry Marigold Dragon Scale has some bigger cuts of glitter in it which is awesome. Teaven is a gorgeous green that I love and Terra Kota is absolute fire. I recommend these pressed glitters above any others that I've tried so far. If you want to know what bases I use, it's NYX Glitter Glue and Too Faced Shadow Insurance Glitter Glue. Right now I mainly just use NYX, These 3 shades are from MBA Cosmetics. They were $6 a piece also on Etsy. Swatches from top to bottom Amethyst Moon (my fave) Sinister Merciless Amethyst Moon looks like a Unicorn freaking threw up in a pan and gift wrapped it. I love that color. Speaking of pans, you will need a palette to put these in as all of them are pan only. So grab a coastal scents empty palette, an ABH palette if you have one handy, a Z Palette, whatever, just make sure you have a palette to put these in. I don't like to mix mine with eye shadows either. One wrong move and it could be lights out for the shadows that you have in there that are now a hybrid of glitter and pigment. They aren't super messy I'm just super protective. So there you go. I'll leave the links for MBA and Fairy Vibez. I hope you check them out just remember get some glitter glue. You will get some fall out naturally. Not much though, not nearly as much as you would with loose glitter. Terra Kota and Rosa glitters Amethyst Moon glitter Dragon Scale pressed glitters
This past week was the Sephora VIB sale and we also hit 225,000 total views! (insert cheers and applause) They have 2 sales a year and November is the big one but this one is always nice too. Instead of 20% off it's 15% off for VIB Rouge and then 10% of for VIB and Beauty Insiders, I think. November is the Friends and Family event and it's 20% off for pretty much everyone. So I picked up, surprisingly, not very much. There wasn't much I needed or was interested in, even though companies were dropping new products and lines every day. The one thing I knew I wanted to try though was the Contour Quads from Kat Von D. There are 4 quad options and they are $26. That's actually a really good price in my opinion, especially since Kat Von usually has such great formulas. Plus her Shade+Light Eye Contour palette, which is all matte or mostly matte, was a huge hit so I was really excited for this. I was going to do a Sephora haul first and show all the things I got but I actually am still waiting on a couple things. Plus, I wanted to try more of the stuff I got from the sale so I could give you a bit of a first impression /mini review before posting about them. The packaging as always is adorable. It's a coffin style compact and that's just so true to the line. It's not very heavy, it's actually quite light as far as weight goes so it may feel a little cheap or less sturdy but none the less I love it and would still travel with it. It's not super sleek like a small z palette, the Make Up Forever metal quad palette, or the ABH quad you get when you order 4 shadows, which I seen on UIta they're offering the ABH empty quads for $10 which is a good deal. So it could seem bulky and perhaps it is somewhat, but it's still a good size. It's pretty much the size, length wise, of an iPhone. So I got the quad "Rust". From the name you can probably tell it's gonna be very orangey and warm palette and it is. It has 4 matte shades in it. 1 larger shade being the "base" for the eye and other shade to contour and highlight the eye socket and brow bone. The smaller shades are still standard size from her other palettes so you still get a normal sized shadows. I got Rust because I knew I would use it and it would be easy for me to travel with and they're my "go to" colors. The quads are: Sage: which is a green pop of color and the some yellow based ivorys and a grayish beige Plum: which is matte plum shades with a bright purple, muted mauve/plum, and white Smoke: which is matte cool grays. A grey base, black, blueish grey and white. Rust: which is matte brownish reds, with a peach base, neutral/wamrer dark brown, orange/rust, and ivory These quads are getting some mixed reviews, I know the Sage quad, I've heard, is a little difficult to get your pigment to stay on or vibrant and I understand how that could be because these are so INSANELY pigmented and soft they almost don't adhere to the lid or primer because they can be moved and dusted off easily or they almost melt right in to the skin. I HAVEN'T HAD THAT ISSUE THOUGH WITH MINE. I'm just saying that I understand how that is possible and what people are saying makes sense because I've had that happen with other products. Like I said though, I've not had that issue with my quad. These are the swatches from the quad and automatically you see that excess dust. I had some people ask if they were chalky. No they aren't, they're very soft. I swatched them kinda hard with my finger but also like I said they're so soft that you pick up so much excess powder, which can be both good and bad. So they're all super pigmented of course, the only one that would be dry, if at all, would be the dark brown. It was not as soft as the other shades especially the light shades but that's fine with me because it's not a lot of fall out of dark brown and it blends just fine. It seems similar to Mocha or maybe Americano from Makeup Geek. I'm not entirely sure though I'd need to see them side by side and I don't have them with me at the moment. The base shade which is the peach shade is a pretty similar color to Peach Smoothie from Makeup Geek which is my favorite blending/transition color. The lightest shade is similar to Foxy from Urban Decay which is my favorite brow bone highlight.
The orange/rust shade is just fantastic and I don't really have anything like it in a matte finish. I didn't notice much fall out from it either to tell you the truth. This is also super pigmented, if you know me you know I love Poppy from Makeup Geek but this is a bit more muddy and I LIVE FOR THIS SHADE. Poppy is definitely brighter and a pop of color while this is more wearable and just insanely warm and like a clay mud type color. It's basically what sold me. I love an orange in the crease as you know. It balances out so many looks for me by having a warm crease (not insanely bright crease just warm) and then having like a blue, purple, green or whatever color on the lid. It's so awesome and it doesn't sound like something you would pair off together but just try it, warm crease and a cool based lid. I recommend trying a purple lid and an warm pale orange or coral in the crease and see how you like it because it's so pretty. Of course this also makes a banging warm smokey eye. I also love using the rust shade as a base for the lower lash line, just really blowing it out and making it super smokey bringing it down lower than normal and then using the dark brown over top or just leaving it as is. I even like working a black lid up to a brown crease and then have a orangey brown upper crease as a gradient effect and a super smokey eye that incorporates black but not gray's really and keeps you from looking punched or bruised. So that's my thoughts if you wanted to try something from Kat Von but weren't sure if you'd like it, try these. You can add shimmers to it from other palettes or what not but still get a feel for the formula and shades before going all in and buying one of the bigger palettes. They usually are in the mid $40 range. Of course you can return anything you aren't please with to Sephora as always. They have a very nice return policy. I'll leave the link for it here. If you're going to shop online then use Ebates and get some cash back for your purchases. I believe by just signing up for Ebates you get a gift card or something but I'm not 100% sure. Also look for promo codes that way you can get some extra samples with your order for free. Here's a few that I know of: 9 piece fragrance bag (2 choices of bags) "SCENTME" Bare Minerals Face Trio "BARESERUM" Deluxe Lip Gloss "GETGLOSSY" Dr Brandt Needles No More Mask "NNMMASK" Smashbox XRated Mini Mascara "XRATEDLASH" 7 packets of the Fresh Black Tea Firming Overnight Mask "OVERNIGHT" **the codes usually have to have no less than a $25 purchase and some have to have a $35. I think all of these were $25 purchases though. You can always use the code "YOURGIFT" as well and see what they have in the Mystery Gifts. Codes go in the "promotional code" box, so you can still use a promo code, redeem points and choose 3 samples at checkout if you want. If it's your birthday month then you can also throw that in there too. I hope this was helpful in some way and happy shopping! Spring is right around the corner. So lets roll into some Spring makeup and transitional makeup to give you a bit of color but not too much. As you know I'm a huge fan of color but with spring I think of pastel bright shades in greens, lavender, light blues, light pinks, and pale yellows. When I think of makeup I think of bright coral lips, bright pinks, and lilac shades. So it's more than being just colorful, it's the right shades of color. However, I'm not here to tell you what you can and can't wear as I myself tend to break any makeup rules there might possibly be out there. I have no problem wearing a navy blue or black lip in the dead of summer. So whatever floats your boat but for the sake of Spring colors lets have fun with some spring shades. The picture about is a Spring Transition look as I like to call it. It has a pop of color but very neutral as well. Top lid: MUG Voltage (inner half) Mocha, Corrupt (outer color of lid), Cocoa Bear (crease) Chickadee (crease) Lash line: Dragon Fly, and a bit of Corrupt on the outer part of the lower lash line. Lashes: Violet Voss Just Slayin 3D Faux Mink lashes ABH: Brow Definer in Dark Brown You could trade out that lower lash line with any other bright shade. I think an orange shade or periwinkle or lavender would be just as pretty. Next up is adding a super colorful bright lip to a toned down neutral eye. I chose a red/coral lip for this. The eyes are nothing special just a warm brown in the crease and a light shimmery lid. The lips are Colour Pop Satin Liquid Lipstick in Cozy. Which is very similar to Colour Pop Matte liquid lip in Succulent. Only Succulent is more red and Cozy has a bit more orange. Both are bright as can be and gorgeous. I prefer the Satin formula more though. Here we have some INTENSE color. I know it's super colorful and not everyone would wear it but when I think of Spring I think of two things color, and the fact that you can use more makeup in the Spring than the Summer. In Summer I feel like less is better because everything just melts off your face and feels super heavy. Things run and move around, so in the Spring I feel like you can get away with more. This look is: Sauce Box Temptation Palette for the whole thing. You could add or take away things from this obviously. The blue in this reminds me of Neptune from MUG so that's an option if you don't want the palette. Also the orange reminds me of Dark Mango from Coastal Scents. So these shadows can be duped. The yellow I can't really dupe cause it's so hard to find super pigmented yellows. The only other one I have that would work is from the Melt Radioactive stack. If you wanted it to be more toned down then Yellow Brick Road from MUG would work I think. So this look has more color and brighter colors on the lids and lips. This is full blown spring and summer in my opinion. Not transition with a pop of color just all color. The lips are Colour Pop ultra matte liquid lipstick in Pacific that is a bright orange. The eyes are: Colour Pop shadows: Fantasy, Heat, and Animal You can also use a bit of black to deepen that outer corner if you want. Koko Lashes in Foxy This is the final look. It's very iridescent and pale colors. With a duo chrome pigment. It's just an "enchanting" look in my opinion. The lip I went with is dark purple but you could use literally a ton of shades with this like pale peaches, lavenders, pinks, nudes, even coral in my opinion. The dark lip just helps balance out the look I think.
Eyes: MUG shadows in Mai Tai (inner corner) Wisteria (crease and lower lash line) a bit of Corrupt on the outer corner. Pigment in Hologram applied with a damp brush in the center and inner part of the lower lash line. MUG Immortal Gel Liner Violet Voss lashes in Vamptress Lips Colour Pop Zipper I finally completed a palette full of my Makeup Geek favorites. I actually had a smaller palette which was the Large palette from Make Up For Ever. This one is the XL palette. It holds 45 shadows that are standard size shadows. The Make Up For Ever single shadows are bigger than shadows like: MAC, Makeup Geek, ABH, Coastal Scents, and so on. Standard size is around .064 oz. So like I said these are my favorite colors and it's taken me over a year, maybe 2 years, to get all these because I'm very selective. There are only a few that I don't use that much. A great way to get MUG shadows if you haven't tried any is bundles. There is a starter pack on sale for $44 that has 9 go to shades. There is another vegan bundle pack that is mostly cool toned and greenish blues and taupe shades along with some really good basics. It's $50 but you get 2 foiled shadows which are $10 a piece and the rest are from the permanent original line. So from left to right starting with the top row: Chickadee a light orange or burnt yellow Yellow Brick Road a satiny finish pale yellow Mirage satin finished ivory Voltage duo chromed pale yellow pearl Shimma Shimma shimmery silverish ivory/beige Peach Smoothie my favorite transition shade. It's a pale warm peach. Sorbet from the Matte line. This is a perfect pale baby pink shade. You can barely see it on my skin though. In the Spotlight this is from the Foiled line. It's a silverish peach finish. You don't hardly see the peach as much as you do silver tones because of the light reflecting off it. Creme Brulee another really good transition shade. A peachy brown shade. 2nd row Mai Tai from the Duo Chrome line. One of my all time favorites. It's a pinky peach duo chrome that's more pink than peach. Cupcake from the original line. It's a mauvey pink that's great for plum or purple eye looks as a blending color. Mango Tango from the original line. A brighter peachy pink with flecks of gold. Poppy is a coral/mango bright shade. Razzleberry this is a red raspberry shade with gold glitter. Bitten this is another one of my all time favorites from the OG line. Its a matte maroon shade, its not too dark though. Curfew from the Matte line. It's a medium purple. It's not overly bright purple that pops it's more for definition. Wisteria a bright lavender, spring time purple. This is the 2015 remake. Blacklight from the duochrome line is purple based with light silver blue reflects. 3rd row Mesmerized a purple taupe shade from the Foiled line Twilight. This shade I don't use much is a shimmery silverish purple Prom Night also a shade I don't use often. Its a shimmery deeper silver Moondust a taupey shimmery silver Bedrock a matte grey Hipster a cool toned medium brown with a satin finish Barcelona Beach this is a good transition shade for cool toned looks. Its matte grey based shade with a touch of brown. Latte a light cool toned brown Cocoa Bear a warm medium brown 4th row Mocha a neutral deeper brown Corrupt the blackest black eye shadow I've ever used. Houdini from the foiled line. A foiled Navy with a touch of deep green in my opinion. Time Travel a matte muted navy Boo Berry from the matte line. A brighter navy blue like a blue berry basically. Neptune a bright royal blue Poolside a lighter super bright blue like the Caribbean water. Mermaid a teal with golden reflects shimmer Pegasus from the foiled line a foiled bright blue 5th row Dragon Fly a spring time sea foam teal Shark Bait a darker matte teal Enchanted Forest matte forest green Envy a shimmery glittery super dark green Typhoon a duo chrome of dark green and gold Appletini might be discontinued. Its a pastel green shade with gold satin finish and glitter flecks. Fuji from the matte line but it has some glitter in it. It's a lime green Pixie Dust a shimmery yellow with a bit of green in it. I use this all the time actually. Fortune Teller a foiled gold. A super bright gold. Like as gold as yellow gold gets. So that's all my MUG shades. I love them, I've not found a single one that was't great. Plus they're inexpensive. The matte, duo chrome and regular line is $6 and the Foiled Line is $10 a piece. They honestly are my favorite line of eye shadows I have. Anastasia Beverly Hills would be in second place. I'm a huge Makeup Geek fan as you know. I pretty much have loved everything they've put out. I've enjoyed watching them grow as a company, I've been a subscriber of Marlena's since before she started the company, I love them as a whole but their products can't be beat in my opinion. The top left pic of swatches are the top row in the palette: Chickadee, Yellow Brick Road, Mirage, Voltage, Shimma Shimma, Peach Smoothie, Sorbet, In The Spotlight, Creme Brulee The top right pic is the 2nd row in the palette: Mai Tai, Cupcake, Mango Tango, Poppy, Razzleberry, Bitten, Curfew, Wisteria, Blacklight The bottom left is the 3rd row. The swatches go from the bottom up on this one and left to right in the palette: Mesmerized, Twilight, Prom Night, Moondust, Bedrock, Hipster, Barcelona Beach, Latte, Cocoa Bear The middle pic on the bottom is the 4th row and the swatches go back to top-bottom: Mocha, Corrupt, Houdini, Time Travel, Boo Berry, Neptune, Poolside, Mermaid, Pegasus The bottom right pic is the 5th row Dragon Fly, Shark Bait, Enchanted Forest, Envy, Typhoon, Appletini, Fuji, Pixie Dust, Fortune Teller There are some things I think would be beneficial to know if you wanted to start your own palette. I really recommend the matte line. The finish is very buttery soft and softer than some of the permanent shades (not all just some) so that's something to consider. I love the color Bitten but it's drier than the actual matte line they released later on, so maybe Cherry Cola from the matte line would be something you'd be interested in. Just using that as an example. They're the same price. It's one of the things I really love about MUG is they are constantly redoing the formula if something isn't up to par. They've had several remakes over the years. Definitely look into the matte line for sure, here is a link to a video that shows what shades are in the matte line. There are 20 shades in the matte line all together. These are the duo-chromes. They are the same price as the rest except for foiled shadows. What I love about these are that they almost look foiled. I couldn't get a great pic of them on the swatches on my arm. They have to be moved around to catch the other shades in the shadow so it's hard to take just one pic of them and show what they can do. On the left side is Voltage a pearly pale yellow and then Mai Tai next to it which is a peach base with lots of pink. Mai Tai is one of my all time favorites. The right side is Blacklight. Its a purple base with a light blue duo chrome. It's very bright and lighter than what you see in the pan. Typhoon is a forest green with a gold duo chrome. It looks almost foiled for sure. Duo Chromes are really cool to use with dark or light bases. To make them really bright use white, to make the duo chromes pop more use a black base. I apply them sometimes with my finger, especially Mai Tai. They apply well with a brush though. I just use my finger when I really want to pack on the color. These are the foiled shadows. The top three are In The Spotlight, Mesmerized and Houdini. The bottom two shades are Pegasus and Fortune Teller. Light bounces right off these super foiled shadows. They are $10 a piece and I feel they apply best by using your finger. You get the most pigmentation that way I think. I love using these as a pop of color in the center of the lid. You can use a brush to apply these but I find it's a little harder that way.
So everywhere I look and every email I get is new color correcting products. EVERYWHERE. So I thought "lets talk about it". Firstly, color correcting is great but not every one needs it and just because it's everywhere you look, doesn't mean you need to start being as in to color correcting like we were with contouring and highlighting. Cause lets face it, it got pretty crazy with the contouring tricks and they're still going. So color correcting can be a little overwhelming and confusing so we're gonna go over the basics. I've included all the color correcting products that caught my eye, might be good, or are just trendy. The basics of color correcting go back to the color wheel. I did a whole post on it. Opposite colors neutralize each other. So here are some easier ways to look at it. Green cancels out redness (helps with rosacea, and blemishes) Yellow cancels out redness and purples and helps with dull skin Peach cancels out blue/purple and helps with dark spots (typical for helping dark circles under the eyes) Lavender balances out yellow skin and brightens the skin Blue cancels out sallow skin Pink brightens dark areas Orange for deep blue/purples, deep grey and dark spots So that's the way I look at it. The main ones you see in correctors are Yellow, Green, Pink and Peach. I rarely see blue. Lavender is becoming more popular as well as Orange and Papaya shades. There's something for everyone now and that's great but it's confusing too. From top left of the picture above is: Marc Jacobs Beauty Cover(t) Stick Color Corrector $42 for .56 oz. This comes in 3 shades each of them being infused with two colors. It looks really cool and you get a lot of product but I just don't see this as something anyone would "need". There are cheaper options that do the job just fine. Although I'm sure this is a great product it is not something I am interested in I find it more trendy. It looks cool though and I won't disagree with that. This is VIB only right now. Next is Besame Brightening Powders $22 for .21 oz. These are not new necessarily but they're included some new shades. The one above is a pink powder. I have the Lavender powder and love it. I will get the pink powder as well because they are great for setting the under eye area. That's really the only place I would use these powders, is under the eye. I think these are a fair price and usually you do need to set your under eye area if you've used concealer and what not. Smashbox Color Correcting Stick $23 for .12 oz. This has 4 shades. It's very similar to the contour sticks which you'll find several products that are the same packaging as their contour counter parts. This comes in 4 shades which are peach, orange, lavender, and green. So no pink and no yellow. This is a buildable product, but "creamy". I find stick/crayon products tend to be a little dry and look cakey but Smashbox usually does a great job. I'm not sure how I'd feel about dragging this around the eye areas. That's not a good thing to do for the delicate eye area, but if these were more pigmented instead of "buildable" I wouldn't be near as worried. These are also VIB only right now. Stila Correct and Perfect Palette $45 for .46 oz. This includes two powders and 5 cream correctors. I think this palette is really cool and I would be tempted to get it. Yellow and Lavender are the powders. A larger peach cream corrector for dark circles and four smaller Green, Pink, Orange, and Yellow creams. The packaging is beautiful. It has both powder and cream which is handy. This has every corrector though and there will be at least 1/3 of the palette that you won't use maybe even half. If you're a freelance artist, I think it would be great. If you want it just for yourself I might would pass. This is also VIB exclusive. Beauty Blender correct.four micro mini set for $30. If you like the mini beauty blenders it might would be nice to have as extras but I wouldn't get sponges in color correcting colors because that seems like a lot of time and space. If it simplifies things for you though as a freelance artist then I think it would be smart or like I said a great way to have back ups. This is limited edition. The top left is: Algenist REVEAL Concentrated Color Correcting Drops $38 for .5 oz. These come in four colors I think. This seems really awesome. Algenist is mainly skincare and so this product is also marketed toward skincare and makeup. It can be used alone or added to makeup. It can soothe, balance skin's texture, and brighten. It's featuring Microalgae, microalgea oil, and alguronic acid to not just neutralize and balance but also treat and cover the skin. I think this is really cool. If I had a lot of redness I would get the green one for sure. Pigment drops are really popular right now so it's not surprising it would lead into color correcting and that's fine with me because added to foundation or it would be far less products to layer. This is also VIB exclusive right now. Sephora+Pantone Universe Correct and Conceal palette. $49 it has 15 shades in the palette there are two palettes available. I think this is a great palette for artists to have in their kits. It has correctors and concealers. I don't know how great they are as far as pigmentation and what not, it has no stars on Sephora but of the reviews it has it's apparently really nice. This is also VIB exclusive right now. Becca Backlight Targeted Correctors $30 for .16 oz 4 shades of Peach, Green, Lavender, and Papaya. I love the pink brightener for dark circles and I have no doubts this would be wonderful. These have been out for a few months and have really good reviews. I would definitely consider this if you wanted something color correcting. Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Wipeout Color Correcting Palette: this is $45 it has 6 shades in it. It's in the same set up as the contour palette. This releases on February 29th online and March 14th in stores. Cover FX Correct Click $18 for .19oz it has 6 shades. Peach, Lavender, Yellow, Green, Orange, and Brick. I think these are neat they are a good price and you have the option to customize them with the Click Stick, or get two in a set for $44. I would be interested in giving these a go. Plus they have a nice shade range that include dark orange and reddish orange. Which you won't see hardly anywhere else. Now we're getting to last of the new/new-ish products.
Kat Von D Lock It Color Correcting Eyeshadow Primer $25. This is neat it's skin tone shades that mask any veins on the lid as a concealer would all while being a good base for your eyeshadow. It's stick form or crayon, .049 oz. I would look into this especially if you like using a base that masks your natural lid for veins or darkness like MAC paint pots or colors concealers. Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluid $28. It comes in 5 shades and if it's anything like the Naked concealer (which I think it will be) it's gonna be amazing. I would seriously consider this because it's liquid and light weight and if I was just guessing has great pigmentation. This is for VIB's right now and it's also Sephora exclusive right now, it's not on the Urban Decay website yet. Sephora Collection Bright Future Color Correctors $14 for .14oz it comes in 7 shades. I have it in peach and I really love it. I think these are great for dark circles I don't know how good they would be for redness on the face or blemishes but for dark circles I do recommend it the peach tones. YSL Neautralizers $38 for .08oz. It has three shades. This is the same packaging as the Touche Eclat Radient Touch that people use as brighteners, highlighters, and concealers. I do really like the Radient Touch but I don't even use that very much because there are equally good or better products out there and for the price I just feel like it's a bit of a unnecessary splurge. Which is how I feel about this and it doesn't have a lot of product or shades. So there you have it. That of course is not the only ones available. Color correcting is not a new thing by any means. LA Girl has good ones and has had them for about a year. So does NYX. If it were me, the ones I would consider getting would be the Urban Decay, Becca, or Sephora Bright Future. My color corrector shades that I use are usually only yellow and peachy tones though. So everyone is different. Keep in mind if you're someone with texture the more products you layer the more noticeable it's going to be so maybe consider the Algenist drops if you need something. Take into consideration if your dry or oily as well, as really creamy products may not be ideal for oily gals just as powders may not be ideal for very dry gals. A lot of these are VIB exclusive right now meaning you need to be a VIB member to get them. A VIB member is the 2nd level in their rewards program meaning you spend $350 in a calendar year. They will be available to everyone shortly I'm sure and there are plenty to choose from that are oldies but goodies as well that have stood the test of time. These you will find at Sephora. Don't forget to use Ebates and get 4-8 percent cash back on purchases. This glorious product is the Melt Cosmetics Radioactive Stack. If you know me you know this is right up my alley. It's bright, it's pigmented, and it's a lot of product. Which I always love Melt for is their huge shadows. This is like all Melt Stacks magnetized and can be separated and re arranged. It's the same price as all Melt stacks which is $48. These are the swatches, the only one that seems not matte is Xenon. It's a satin finish. These are kinda powdery because they are so pigmented and large, you're naturally gonna have some dust to them. Bright colors tend to have a lot of white powder in them which make them naturally dry and dusty. So the fact that these are still so pigmented and keep their intensity really says a lot. Even the yellow is insanely bright which is hard to pull off. Yellows tend to be patchy and sheer this is not. This is an artistic look that I done with this. It's obviously not "everyday" for some of you, with the colored brows and what not, but to each their own. Neon is in the crease above Radon. Radon is on the outer half of the lid and top lip. Xenon is in the inner corner and lower lash line. Radioactive is on the inner half of the lid.
These apply great and a little goes a long way. If you love color you will love this. Melt has awesome eye shadows and this has been a while in the making and I understand why it takes them so long to put out new stacks, because they're near perfect every time. These are Vegan as always and come with a mirror on top. ***you need to know that Radon and Radioactive include ingredients that aren't technically approved for the eyes. Most pink shadows are not approved for the eyes because of something in the pigment, some companies do have approved pink shadows though. I had no reactions to this except a little staining on the lid from the pink but that didn't last when I actually used my cleanser to take it off and not makeup remover. I want you to know that just to be aware. In saying that though there are hardly any glitters that are approved as "eye safe" and yet there are a ton of eye glitters out there. So just putting that out there. Today I'm going to talk about neutral looks and how you can bring a little something extra to them with a pop of color. Whether that be on the lid it self or with your lip color. So I have three. Two of them I've linked videos to that I done for Instagram. This look above, I actually seen @wickedbeautification on Instagram do with similar colors. I modified it somewhat to my own vision and used different products. Her's is gorgeous so you should check it out for sure, she's so talented. It had more plum/berry shades in it without the inner corner teal part. Mine is a bit more red brown, oranges and a lighter teal somewhat. Here's what I used to do mine:
This is a more cool toned brown eye (halo again) which when you add pink over it it tends to look a little purple. I try to keep the brown tone as much as possible so I add in warmer tones to cancel out any purple it's trying to bring out. It has some orange on the lower lash line. I have a video for it here which will take you through the whole "halo" technique I use for all halo looks pretty much. Now you could actually add in much more brown to make this even more neutral. I went in hard with the pink so you may want to do less. The Star Powder pigment brings iridescence, it's not necessarily vital to the look though. You could use the pink shades and just go with a darker pink halo eye which is still beautiful. Here's what I used:
My lipstick is ABH Lovely liquid lipstick. This look I really love because it's a warm neutral smokey eye with an ombre lip that has a bright red center. I have a video on how I done my ombre lip here. The eyes can be modified to what ever you want as well as the lips, I just wanted to include a pop of color that wasn't necessarily on the eye.
Here's what I used:
Lips are Feminist lip liner from Colour Pop and Atlantic City liquid lipstick from Ofra Cosmetics. So those are my latest, and best three examples of easy ways to add in color to your makeup. Whether it be daily, or for a special occasion they all would be suitable. My birthday is Friday so I'm thinking the first one with the teal is going to be my birthday look. If I don't find something I like better. Right now though it's my favorite. Also check out my Instagram (@lovemascara) for small tutorial videos every few days. I'm still working through the lighting and angles though so bear with me, I'm trying to better the quality of them. I'll sign off now and I hope this was helpful, remember to be kind to each other. Spread love not hate. I appreciate you and take care! **the picture above is from the Anastasia website because I couldn't get a good pic of the shape of mine. If you are familiar with my blog you know that I'm a huge fan of Anastasia Beverly Hills. Everything that I have from them I've really liked. So it's never a question on whether or not I'm going to like a new product they launch, it's just a given. Their newest product they've launched is the Brow Definer. Which in my eyes is like brow wiz on steroids. Its a triangle shape looking at it straight down the tube. The reason for the shape is so you can have three different ways to fill in your brows from thin-thicker-very thick. So you could use it for short thin strokes to mimic hair like a brow wiz using the tip of the brush, you could make thicker hairs by using the back side of the pencil. Or you could use it to fill in the brow quickly with the full length of the pencil flat against the skin. You could also use it to draw and sculpt the brow holding it parallel (longest side) and using the length of the product. Being somewhat of an angled brush shape it carves a brow much easier than a Brow Wiz but not as sculpted and intense as Dip Brow pomade is, and this gives you more control. The Brow Wiz is a thin pointed tip that works really well to mimic hairs but harder and more time consuming to fill in the entire brow and also harder to sculpt brows evenly. This makes that much, much easier due to the slanted angle provided by the pencil. Now if you like that really intense brow, or ombre brow where the tail is super intense and sculpted I'd use Dip Brow and powder. If you like a softer, yet defined brow I would definitely use this. It just is more convenient and it cuts your time in half. Plus you don't have to reach for seven different products to do your brows. You have 3 options of application and a spooley brush on the opposite side. This spooley is bigger than the Brow Wiz spooley which I actually like the one on the Brow Wiz better. This works just as well though. I just prefer smaller spooleys. Another thing I LOVE about this is that you get .007 oz of product in this and in a Brow Wiz you get .003 oz. So that's more than double the product. My biggest issue with the Brow Wiz is that it runs out so fast on me and I'm hoping this won't do that. The Brow Definer is $2 more ($23) than the Brow Wiz ($21). If you have a pro discount with ABH you can not use it on the Brow Definer right now. This is available on the ABH website (of course), and online at Sephora, Ulta, Macy's, Nordstrom and Dillards. I also got 4 of the newer eye shadow shades they released for the fall. I got Henna, Prussian Blue, Macaroon and Party Dress. Looking at these now with some of the other shades I have from their line I wish I would've picked some other colors maybe but none the less I really love these colors I just happen to own some that are similar. Henna is a gorgeous foiled type orange/copper shade but it reminds me of China Rose a little only way more intense and darker somewhat. Prussian Blue is a super pretty foiled blue shade, it reminds me of Mermaid and Dragon Fly though but more of a true blue. Macaroon is my jam. It's a foiled lavender/mauve shade and it's stunning. I would say it's kinda similar to Pink Champagne but this is definitely more lavender and better formula. Last but not least I got Party Dress which I wasn't really enthused about but it's actually really pretty it's neutral/nude with flecks of glitter in it that you can actually see instead of being all shimmer, this is more matte with glitter the tone of it is similar to Bengal but with glitter. Which makes that shade very unique and cool. The quality of these are amazing. They're even better than the first shadows they released that I have and I'm still a big fan of those. The Titanium line had a lot of fall out originally but the new foiled style shades like Henna, Prussian Blue and Macaroon adhere better to the eye, keep their intensity, and are more opaque it seems. Where as the Titanium shades like Pink Champagne and Metal needed to be layered over another shadow I found. Not that I didn't love those anyways these are just even better. Another really awesome thing is that before you got a discount if you done an 8 well palette. Now you can do a 4 well palette for $40. Making these $10 a piece when, I believe, regularly they're $12 a piece. So that's actually really awesome. They have said that their shadows and other products besides brow products are coming to Ulta, Sephora, etc, sometime in early spring I'm guessing. So if you're someone who needs to see things in person (I'm looking at you, Savannah.) You will be able to do so. In this picture above I'm wearing Henna in the center. Bengal in the crease and some Red Earth as well. Then on the outer and inner corners I'm wearing Noir, layered over Deep Plum, over Smoke which is over Red Earth. So if you were to apply it you would Bengal in the crease first, Red Earth on the inner and outer corners and buffed into the crease, then Smoke on the inner and outer corners, then over that you'd do Deep Plum and finish with Noir. Although you could finish with Deep Plum and it look awesome as well. I took a little Deep Plum into the crease as well, just a smidge to carve out the crease. I loved this so much that I didn't want to take it off at night and it's been a while since I've loved a look that much. In this picture I'm wearing Macaroon as the star of the show. It's beautifully frosted and lavender. I applied it with my finger to the center of the lid.
Also using the Brow Definer as well for my brows. And that was the only thing I used to fill in/sculpt my brows. |
