Once again, I come to you with news about one of Exuviance's awesome products. I've been testing the Exuviance AF Vitamin C20 Serum Capsules. You know, or I hope you do, that I'm hardcore about Vitamin C. You need to use Vitamin C, everyday, in some form, in some strength. Vitamin C is a must no arguments.
So here's my rule. I've seen this in a few articles that say this but I don't feel like it's discussed enough or made a priority as it should be. Vitamin C and lower can be used in the morning and I do use a Vitamin C 10 in the morning. Anything over 10% vitamin c should be used at night. I have several variations of strengths and formulas. This is one of the highest pure vitamin c (L -ascorbic acid) that I have because it's 20%. I have some other high strengths even one that is a bit higher than this but it's not pure vitamin c, which is the most effective and potent form of vitamin c there is.
These are in capsules and you get 60 capsules. To open you twist the top of the capsule off and squeeze out the contents. The reason they're in capsule form is because it will keep it away from light, air, and water. Basically, anything that could break the product down. So it's in the most stable form there is. Personally, I would prefer a pump and air tight pump. However, for good vitamin C I will use it in whatever packaging they deem most efficient.
Along with Vitamin C this has a patented ingredient Aminofil which is where the AF comes from in the name. Aminofil is an Amino Acid compound. Where as Vitamin C is an antioxidant. I have a post on Vitamin C and it's function which I will linkhere. So I'm going to skim the high notes of Vitamin C and the antioxidant benefit it has. I'll go a little more in depth with Amino Acid and the function. Ok so Vitamin C is an antioxidant. Antioxidant simply put prevents oxidation. Oxidation in the skin occurs as we age. As we get older our antioxidant defense weakens thus making us more vulnerable to free radicals which brings on oxidative stress, leaving the skin unprotected and to age more apparently. Antioxidants inhibit oxidation before free radicals can become a concern for the skin. Especially Vitamin C which protects the skin. Amino Acids have several functions in skincare, they can also be an antioxidant. They can act as a water binding agent, and are often combined with other ingredients to make an excellent anti aging product. I say "anti aging" loosely because I'm away that's not the term the community is really using anymore. I don't have another term for it though so there ya go. This product in particular focuses on Aminofil which is supposed to help the skins volume and target collagen. "Collagen amino acids are made from the hydrolysis (breaking down with water) of protein, resulting in a high amount of a single amino acid, hydroxyproline, which serves to increase skin’s moisture levels and smoothness." Now that we've discussed the two main factors, lets get into how they perform. High strength Vitamin C is known to be quite gritty especially high strength. This has the least amount of grit. Meaning the most finely milled. Which is awesome because I find very gritty formulas to ball up especially when layering things. This works out very well. I use it very early in my night time routine and I PRESS this into the skin, I do not massage or rub it into the skin. I then let it sit for a few seconds to absorb and then I go in with my other products. I don't use a strong AHA or Retinol product when I'm using this, which means I don't use this every single night. I use it about 4 nights a week. I still use some form of acid and retinol while using this but they are just more mild on those nights. This is definitely potent. It's not what I recommend for beginners, but it's fantastic if you need to kick it up a notch. It most definitely tingles for a few seconds or may feel more intense than that. You can add this to a moisturizer and I find that helps which is what I would recommend you do the first few times you use it. I do it both ways. Just depends on how I'm feeling. Mixing it with a moisturizer helps get rid of some of the grit feel as well. I can see the brightening effect this has had on some pigmentation spots I had. My skin is SUPER glowy. Incredibly so. Obviously you would only use this at night and it can make skin more sensitive but I don't find that to be an issue for me. I feel like this is a more advanced skin care product for more obvious concerns like pigmentation issues and so on because it is so potent. I'm going to insert the brands description of the product: "Boost the anti-aging effectiveness of your daily skincare routine and experience the proven benefits of maximum strength 20% Vitamin C, a gold standard in dermatology. Simply layer the capsule’s potent serum on clean skin before other steps in your routine, or mix it into your daily Exuviance moisturizer.
